This 100 gallon tank was moved from Gloucester and set up recently at the London Ambulance Service restroom in St.John's Wood TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE FISH ORPHANS SERVICE - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY September 20th 2009 FishOrphans relies on donations to survive. Last year the donations fell short of the running costs by over £2,000 and Wedad and Gerald can no longer afford to subsidise this service, so the London centre has been forced to close until further notice. All of our regional contacts are still operational and people requiring the rehoming service should attempt to contact the nearest rehomer on our "Contacts" pages. All current residents will be maintained and looked after as our promise provides.
The FishOrphans Fish Rescue Service is Free and unique. FishOrphans relies on donations and rehomers without which it cannot function and we always have a wide range of fishes requiring specialist rehoming by experienced fishkeepers
Unlike its larger and more well-known and publicized sister services, such as the PDSA and the RSPCA ( neither of whom truly cater for fish) it attempts to rehouse and rehome unwanted fishes, aquariums and aquatic pet collections into environments where these will be warmly received and maintained. It maintains from its own very limited charitable budget all tanks and aquaria rehomed in Hospitals and Retirement homes. The service is country-wide but most effective in London, the south and south-east of England , Cumbria and Staffordshire and in all other areas* where we currently have voluntary helpers. All of these helpers are expert fishkeepers, aquarists, or ichthyologists – many of whom are able to call on their lifetime's experiences and expertise in the maintainence of aquaria and specialised fish species. FishOrphans is sponsored by the Calypso Organization (www.calypso.org.uk ) and by the International Federation of Online Clubs and Aquatic Societies www.ifocas.fsworld.co.uk . FishOrphans was formed in 1999 by Gerald Jennings and his wife, Wedad. Gerald is and has been a fishkeeper and ichthyologist, both amateur and professional for over 40 years and has written many books on fishkeeping and aquaria related subjects. He is also currently the European Representative of the International Federation of Online Clubs and Aquatic Societies (IFOCAS) which is the authoritative 'voice' of the aquarium community worldwide.
So, If you ever come across any abandoned or unwanted
fishtanks, equipment or
fish, give Gerald a ring (or Fax) on 020 7281 4948 or email We rehome all fishes**, both tropical and coldwater species ( and rarely marine species ) from tanks, pools and ponds but we have difficulties in finding good new homes for large pool and pond grown goldfish varieties. We generally have a range of these from 5" to 10" overflowing from our limited storage areas so if any readers have large pools or ornamental lakes that can take a few more fish please contact us. We cannot rehome pond fish in excess of 12" body length except in special circumstances * Companies and Corporations are charged a small administration fee to cover basic costs ** We reserve the right to refuse service for inappropriate enquiries and in cases where we cannot help due to geographic or physical storage reasons. Please please note: We never "sell" donated fishes. All fishes are carefully rehomed to selected volunteers or institutions The people linked to this site (below) support us with free reciprocal advertising, so please help them if you ever can
For a light-hearted break - Place the curser in the bowl (or even
above it!)
